The Office of the Vice-Provost (Learning & Teaching) (OVPLT) is delighted to partner with faculties and the university community to present a Learning Lunch Box professional learning series.

These are practical workshops held over lunchtime once a month, where attendees can bring their lunch and learn tips, tricks and ideas which could be incorporated into their own teaching units very quickly.

They will generally feature 3 x 10 minute sessions, plus Q&A. They will be held at different campuses each time on various days, with the option of connecting virtually where possible.

Professor Darrell Evans, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Learning & Teaching)
'I wonder whether my students got that? I want some interaction in this session.
How can I have some formative assessment in this class? I wonder whether my
students agree with that? I wish we could afford some clickers.’ Have these
thoughts and questions crossed your mind? This learning lunch box item is designed
to demonstrate the use of a simple set of coloured cards within a teaching session,
particularly a large class format.

Dr Kris Ryan, Associate Dean (Education), Faculty of Engineering
Predictive feedback: why reinvent the wheel?
Feedback for a student's work typically takes the form of a rubric, general in class
comments, or worse, some scribbled notes in the margin. As assessors, how often
do we repeat ourselves? Year after year, students get caught up with the same
concepts. Is there a better way? With YouTube, an iPhone, and a whiteboard there
is! Start predicting feedback and start saving time. In 10 minutes, I'll show you

Dr Elizabeth Davis, Senior Lecturer (EF), Department of
Pharmacology, Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences
Using videos to increase preparedness for and engagement in laboratory classes
We are using videos to replace face-to-face pre-practical talks in an effort to
increase student preparedness for and engagement in practical sessions. In this talk
I'll discuss the why and how – and present some feedback from staff and students.
how.

Places are limited, so please book early.

Videoconferencing with all campuses is available. Please contact us for more information.
